Specialist in Oral Surgery
Keith was a Senior Lecturer in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Sheffield and Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, including the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, and Sheffield Childrens Hospital for over 22 years until he retired from full-time practice at the end of March 2017. Keith continues to work in private practice at both one80dental and at the BMI Thornbury hospital in Sheffield.
After graduating from the University of Newcastle, Keith trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Sheffield gaining his Certificate of Accreditation in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1993. The award of a prestigious Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship then allowed Keith to undertake a year of full-time time research and complete his studies into methods of lingual nerve repair and the award of his PhD. Keith is continuing with his current research into the psychological effects that this face changing surgery has on the quality of life of patients. Keith has published over 30 scientific papers in clinical and scientific journals
Keith has extensive clinical and surgical experience and undertakes a broad range of oral and oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures for both adults and children. Before leaving the NHS Keith had a special interest in orthognathic surgery, the surgical correction of facial deformity, carrying out more than 30 major orthognathic surgery operations each year.
Keith has had many regional and national roles including being a Royal College Specialty Advisor, an Examiner for the Tricollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination, an Oral Surgery Training Programme Director, the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Oral Surgery, and being President of the British Association of Oral Surgeons in 2012 and 2013.
