Teeth Whitening

It is easy to achieve a white bright smile

Teeth Whitening is a popular, safe and effective procedure where the shade of your teeth can be altered without removing any of the surface of the tooth.
As we age our teeth can yellow for many reasons but it is most often related to diet and lifestyle. They are susceptible to discolouration from staining liquids and foodstuff such as coffee, red wine or tobacco. A build-up of calculus or tartar can also cause teeth to become more yellow, however whitening treatment can help to improve the colour of dull or discoloured teeth and restore a brighter smile.

Teeth whitening treatment involves the use of hydrogen peroxide gels in trays, which fit into the mouth like gumshields. Teeth whitening is often performed alongside other cosmetic dental treatments, like composite bonding.

A beautifully white and healthy looking smile
If discolouration is making you conscious of your smile, teeth whitening treatment at our dental practice in Sheffield is a cost effective solution for you.

A beautifully white and healthy smile goes a long way to making you look great and feel even better. Our dentists will work with you to determine the perfect shade to compliment your smile and skin tone.

At one80 Dental in Sheffield we offer our patients the very best cosmetic dentistry treatments. We also understand that there are cheaper DIY teeth whitening kits available. However, due to the risks involved we highly recommend that you only receive treatment from a fully qualified cosmetic dentist.

Teeth whitening is safe, predictable and great value for money
Professional home whitening is safe and reliable. Your dentist here will craft a custom fitted tray, and you will receive a supply of whitening solution to apply to your teeth via the trays.

Your whitening consultation will be carried out by a dentist and the health of your teeth and gums will be assessed to ensure that they are suitable for a whitening procedure. We will take a digital impression of your mouth using our 3D digital intra-oral scanner in order to create a tailor made, clear, thin mouthguard (or bleaching tray) which will be unique to your teeth. Once your mouthguards are received you will return for a second appointment to ensure they fit correctly, shown how to apply the gels yourself and feel confident to do so, after which you can take your whitening kit home to begin the process.

Your teeth will begin to whiten in a few days, with the final results visible in 10 – 14 days and by maintaining a good oral health routine by visiting the dentist and dental hygienist regularly, and avoiding food and drink that can cause staining, you can expect the effects to last between 18 months to 2 years. After this time, you will only need a top up which you can buy at the practice.

Some patients may suffer from some sensitivity during the procedure, but this wears off once treatment is completed and it generally causes no long term damage.

FAQs

As teeth whitening has become more popular, it has become easier to buy DIY and budget whitening kits, but these can often contain harmful chemicals that could even lead to burns in the mouth and damage to the natural enamel of the tooth.  We offer a safe and reliable professional home whitening option here in Sheffield for those who prefer to use daily treatments from the comfort of their own home.

Opting for a professional tooth whitening is always going to yield results that look good but are most importantly, safe.

Teeth whitening results vary depending on the original shade of the teeth. Treatment is not permanent. The effect can last from a few months to up to 3 years and it varies from person to person. The whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth.

Regular visits with our dental hygienist will help to maintain the effects of tooth whitening. They use EMS airflow polishing therapy as standard, which efficiently removes stains, plaque biofilm and calculus using a high-powered antibacterial stream of water, compressed air and fine powder particles.  This therapy can be provided as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with whitening procedures, as it supports the process by removing build-up that could hinder the effects of bleaching.

Good oral hygiene, with regular appointments with the dental hygienist is the best way to maximise the longevity of whitening or any dental treatment. Your dentist can advise on products available for maintaining the effect of the teeth whitening treatment. Some people find that teeth can be sensitive for a few days after treatment, but the sensitivity wears off after a short while and your dentist can also advise on products available to counteract this.
