Preventing gum disease, promoting excellent oral health

Your first visit with our Dental Hygienists is designed to give you the time to discuss your current oral hygiene routine and any concerns you may have regarding your gums, oral health and your tooth brushing technique.  A typical visit will include our Hygienist taking you on a tour of your mouth, focusing on the health of your gums, assessing for any signs of active gum disease.   They will take plaque and bleeding scores as a baseline to check your gum health, and also to help measure your progress and to help you maintain a healthy result and ultimately minimise the risk of developing gum disease in the future. Your teeth will then be cleaned using our EMS Airflow system, and our dental hygienists will also talk you through your next appointment and what it might entail.

We are a specialist practice committed to providing treatment and preventive care for gum and periodontal disease, and our experienced hygiene team works in collaboration with our specialist team including our specialist in Periodontics. They also provide essential periodontal and peri-implant support to all of our dentists to ensure all of our patients have the highest possible standard of care, no matter what treatment they are undergoing.

Our dental hygienists have specific knowledge of, and experience in maintaining dental implants and will provide a cleaning routine and accessories for you to use at home which will be specific to your individual needs and treatment plan.

Quick Oral Hygiene FAQs

We understand that finding the time (and money) to spend on dental and hygiene appointments can easily slip from the priority list, particularly as modern life continues to get busier and more complicated.  At one80 Dental we have dental maintenance plans to help manage the costs of regular oral health appointments (visits to the dentist and the dental hygienists) and most importantly to keep you on top of your oral health routine.

Our plans include convenient, monthly payments to cover your oral health care, as well as many other benefits for your commitment to your oral health and to our practice.  Visit our Membership plans page for more information.

This depends on the advice you receive from your check-up with the dentist or depending on the type and complexity level of any treatment you are receiving.  For routine maintenance appointments you should generally plan to visit the dental hygienist between 1 to 2 times per year, though this can vary.

Yes. Recent changes in dental legislation mean you can now see a dental hygienist or therapist without having to see a dentist first for a check-up.  At one80 Dental we offer these appointments known as ‘Direct Access’ in which you can take advantage of a gum health check, oral health advice and a thorough clean.  However dental hygienists are unable to diagnose or provide treatments for routine and more complex dental conditions as they must always operate within their own scope of practice set out by the General Dental Council (GDC).  At one80 Dental we do operate a policy in which if you have not seen a dentist for over six months, you will be advised to make an appointment for a check-up with a dentist.

If you are advised to see a dentist, then you can book an appointment with us, or at your own dental practice.

Visit our Dental Implant FAQs page for more information.
