European Law requires a radiographic report on any radiograpgh, and CT scans are no exception. Historically one of the main issues with CT in dentistry has been the volume exposed to radiation, which will often be greater than the necessary area for diagnosis. The 2 CBCT machines we have, one at Totley at one80dental and one at Springmount Dental Practice, Matlock, are both very low dose and limited to a specific area. The bonus of this, very high definition and resolution, coupled with reduced need to expose any other area. This means that the clinician will be seeing only the areas of interest and usually there is no requirement for a specific radiologist report.
Whatever the areas included in the CT scan your patient has, all need reporting by an appropriately trained individual. For example, if the scan includes brainstem, a specialist report is required increasing the cost and adding a time delay.
This means a lower dose of radiation for your patient and reduced costs.
