one80 Dental’s top tips for looking after your teeth in a cost-of-living crisis
We know times are tough right now and the cost-of-living crisis is affecting everyone, so we wanted to share some top tips for looking after your oral health on a budget.
Looking after your teeth is extremely important for your overall health, and the links between an unhealthy mouth and other conditions include heart disease, diabetic complications, rheumatoid arthritis, dementia, and respiratory infections such as pneumonia.
Attending regular appointments means we can detect problems early, which makes any treatment required easier for you and more cost-effective, and getting problems fixed before they progress could save you money in the long run.
Here, our hygienist Samantha shares her top tips for taking care of your teeth whilst looking after your wallet:
- Attend regular dental and hygienist appointments/checkups. We recommend having a clean and a checkup around every six months to catch any developing problems early and keep issues like gum disease or tartar buildup at bay, and we personalise all our appointment plans to help you get the best results. At one80 Dental, we use AIRFLOW technology to combat plaque and bacteria, remove stubborn stains and keep your mouth healthy, clean and fresh.
- Consider subscription services for toothbrushes and toothpaste, as these can save you money over the course of the year. Here at one80 we sell Ordo sonic toothbrushes, which come with a subscription option – refill packs cost between £10 and £15 typically every 3 months, and can include new brush heads, mouthwash, toothpaste and interdental brushes to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. You can also pause or cancel the subscription at any time, and choose a delivery schedule that works for you. We highly recommend these products for maximising the results of your appointments and keeping your mouth healthy from home.
- Bulk buy dental products and split them between friends – if you know people with similar needs to you, can you bulk buy at promotional prices and split the cost.
- Be aware of the foods you choose. Many cheap food options can be full of sugar, so make sure you are bearing this in mind while you shop. Fresh, healthy food can be affordable if you plan for it and making better food choices will be good for your body and your teeth. Try to cut down on sugary foods like chocolate, sweets and fizzy drinks, and look for discounts and deals on fruits and vegetables.
Everyone is different and will have their own individual dental needs, but following these steps at home and making attending your regular appointments a priority is the best place to start when it comes to looking after your overall health.
